I think Your 1 year extention (instead of 3 year) could be cause of two diffrent A# numbers on I140 & I485.
I checked I have same A# numbers on I140 approvals & 485 receipts for both EB1(which already denied) & EB3 petitions.
I think It is neccessary to pass on/correct same A# numbers on I140 & I485 petitions (from same set) to avoid this kind of problems.
I was going thru my Reciepts & Approval letters and I found different A numbers on I-140 & I-485. Anybody have similar issue ? Is that normal or do I need to be concerned about ?

We are interested in knowing the source of this rule!
If you pay the new fee for EAD or AP, there is no mention that you won't have to pay again for EAD or AP. You don't have to pay for EAD and/or AP if you had paid new fee for I-485.
To be honest, I have no idea. That's what my attorney told me. I hope she's right then.

you can apply for h1-b for 3 years after i-140 gets approved if you are from oversubscribed countries. in the cover letter to USCIS for the h1 extension, ask them to refer to rule #104 (or something) of USCIS which allows you to file the extension after six years.
do a google search on rule 104 or somebody else can help you out with this

My lawyer replied today saying that we cannot get an H1 extension as my 485 is filed and 140 cleared.

Can you please tell me what is "Letter of Acquirement’'
My company is Acquired too, the New Employer just gave me a Letter Copy
explaining the Merger, NO Official docs were shared with me.
From whom did u get this letter.
No need of new H1 if company 'B's' HR has agreed to continue with 'A''s employees.
1. Get a EVL letter from company 'B'. (This is assuming name of 'A' will change to 'B' or new name.
2. You need to get a "Letter of Acquirement" from HR of new company (I am assuming that the name of the company is changing as well). If name does not change then you should be fine. If you have to travel out of US, you need to carry latest copy of EVL(of new company) and "Letter of Acquirement" along with you. (I went thru these few years back, PwCC bought over by IBM, immediately after the takeover I travelled out of US and came back without any problems(on H1)) this was quite a while back though, you may want to check with your company attorney though.
Note:

H1 renewal i can understand but you need not apply for h4 renewal if your wife is working on EAD. Because if she wants to come back on h4, she always can and does not need h4 to be renewed now.
did you check with your attorney, if she absolutely has to do h4 renewal.

I dont mean to be greedy or selfish but from a purely technical analysis this is extremely bad news for EB2\Eb3 India and China folks. Eb4 and Eb5 account for 10% of the 140000 EB green cards every year. If EB4 and Eb5 were discontinued these visas would have spilled over into Eb1,2,3 category. With the Eb4 and Eb5 extension in the senate bill we are screwed royally. There is heavy misuse in the Eb4 category, so much so that it Eb4 and EB5 may retrogress for India!!!!, there will never be any spillover from this category.
What amazes me is congress has been consistently backing eb4 and eb5 every year by extending it but nobody cares about eb2 and eb3. Not even provisions like STEM are making it.
To people who say stem will not happen, visa recapture will not happen and only solution is CIR because hispanic caucus or anti immigrants will not allow piece meal immigration legislation, I wonder how EB4 and Eb5 are consistenly being passed every year by the congress.

If you filed your I-485 in July, 2007 with the knowledge and consent of Company A, you are in order as GC is for future employment. It would appear you did so since they did not withdraw the I-140.
Having said, the only proper course of action is for you to go back to work for Company A after you obtain your GC.
If you would like to work for Company B after GC, you would have to file a change of employer right now (using AC21 provisions). Alternatively you may interfile the approved I-140 from employer B with your current application. You are entitled to keep the priority date on the I-140 of employer A so you should not be affected negatively.
If your lawyer is saying you could continue to work for employer B after GC without doing anything at this time, I would suggest you talk to another immigration attorney to hear a second opinion.

First of all you are not supposed to involve in any of the PERM process. Its plain illegal. It seems you are taking the wrong route for your porting.
Where is the law that inquiring about PERM process in a forum OR even with Attorney or Employer is not allowed ? Unless you can cite a law how can you call it illegal ?

I think best option will be to use Consular Processing for your EB2 petition. You will have your GC very soon if PD remains current (which is very likely in your case).
